Een paar maanden geleden hebben we ons tot jullie gericht met
een bedelbrief. We wilden fondsen werven om een grote
hoeveelheid historisch 16mm filmmateriaal te digitaliseren en
via het internet voor iedereen beschikbaar te stellen. In deze
brief brengen we verslag uit van de activiteiten tot nu toe.<br>
<br>
Het filmmateriaal is afkomstig uit de nalatenschap van Maarten
Visser, docent oude talen van 1956 tot 1978. In die periode
heeft hij heel veel MLA-activiteiten gefilmd, waaronder
theaterproducties, werkweken, themaweken en festiviteiten.
Daarnaast beheerde hij veel films die door leerlingen, al dan
niet onder zijn (bege)leiding, zijn gemaakt, waaronder een
aantal animatiefilms.<br>

Tot nu toe hebben Thijs Janssen (docent muziek en oud-leerling<span
style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span>van het MLA) en Rob van
Dijk (oud-docent Nederlands) al het ruwe materiaal (tientallen
films, tientallen filmfragmenten, perfobanden en geluidsbanden,
grotendeels door Maarten geordend (maar lang niet alles!),
beschreven en laten digitaliseren. Dat is tijdrovend werk, want
van veel films bestaan meerdere kopieën, al dan niet met geluid,
een origineel, losse rushes en geluidsbanden.<br>
<br>
Behalve veel filmateriaal afkomstig uit het archief van Maarten
hebben Thijs en Rob ook veel beeld- en geluidsmateriaal uit het
schoolarchief gedigitaliseerd, waaronder opnamen van het
beroemde 'Circus' (1961), opnamen van de spraakmakende
uitvoering van Hylas (1959) en toespraken bij de ingebruikneming
van het nieuwe gebouw in de Pieter de Hoochstraat en het
vijftigjarig bestaan van het MLA.<br>

Vrijwel alles staat nu veilig op een tweetal harde schijven. De
volgende stap zal zijn om definitieve versies van de
verschillende films samen te stellen - soms moet aan het
gedigitaliseerde origineel (zonder geluid dus) het geluid van de
originele geluidsband worden toegevoegd, omdat de kwaliteit van
de kopie (dus met optisch of magnetisch geluid) onvoldoende is
geworden.<br>
Dan wordt van die definitieve versie een kopie gemaakt die
geschikt is om via het internet te bekijken.<br>

Dat duurt allemaal nog wel even. Al het materiaal wordt door
Thijs en Rob in een database beschreven. De database is te
raadplegen op <a class="moz-txt-link-freetext"
href="http://mlaweb.nl/filmarchief">http://mlaweb.nl/filmarchief</a>.
Het ligt in de bedoeling om alle films en geluidsbanden in een
lage kwaliteit ook via deze database bekijk- en beluisterbaar te
maken, maar ook dat vraagt tijd. Er is nog slechts een soort
demo beschikbaar.<br>

De filmsite - eigenlijk wordt het meer een digitaal
media-archief - gaat er komen, dankzij alle donaties. Het begin
staat nu op het internet, de rest volgt. Wie geïnteresseerd is
